Attending and presenting at conferences in Poland and Spain

Attending the 56th EPC meeting

The UCL team have had a busy summer so far, attending international conferences in Spain and Poland.

At the end of June, seven members of the Pereira/ Acedo group headed to Santiago de Compostela for the 56th meeting of the European Pancreatic Club (EPC). This event brought together researchers and clinicians from across the continent to discuss the latest advancements in pancreatic research and treatment. The team were selected to present four posters covering biobanking, early diagnosis and novel treatment strategies, including work from CanDetect PhD student Kyra Fraser which is focused on identifying circulating biomarkers for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

Dr Pilar Acedo was also a featured speaker for the “Tapas with the Expert” session, sharing insights on early detection and career opportunities for junior pancreatologists. This session was a highlight, offering a unique blend of scientific discussion and networking in an informal setting.

The group are also active members of two COST action (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) networks, and Pilar, Kyra and Daniel (research assistant) travelled to Krakow a few days later to attend the precision medicine in biliary tract cancer (Precision BTC) network meeting. This event provided a valuable chance to learn and meet with professionals specialising in upper gastrointestinal cancers such as cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder carcinoma.

The team are already brainstorming ideas for projects with new collaborators and are looking forward to applying their newfound knowledge to their own research projects.
